The Academy was founded in 1991 by Gene Fessenbecker to provide materials any independent contractor

could use to start a contracting business correctly or to improve one that was operating. Shortly thereafter, the Oregon Legislature adopted a law requiring new contractors in Oregon to take 16 hours of education in "Laws and Business Practices Affecting Contractors." Gene took his information and set up the first written home study courses on the business of construction contracting. These courses were accredited by the Oregon Construction Contractors Board and still set the standard by which this type of course is judged.

These courses are now published as the Advantage Contractor Business Success Series. The 15 volume set is available to all those people who want to do their trade as a business, as well as those who want to set up a contracting firm and hire trades people. The courses offered by the Academy through this Series allow you to start and operate a contracting business with more comfort by reducing the risk you face. Through the study of these courses and implementation of the routines and practices, you can rise above the average and achieve business success in construction contracting.
